We have wonderful people here at Kindergarten Mind, wonderfully right people.

But so many more people could benefit from all the Play-Dating and what-have-you that goes on here.

When I realized that I had a mission, I also realized that I had to reach farther to spread the message.

Wondering, hmmm, why not do that thing today?

See this post to find out what I'm talking about.

I have this new thing.

It's called Unlocking Your Brilliance

I generally don't do guest posts.

That's because it's hard to connect to a completely new audience, for me, in just one little bit of writing. There's no real background, no growing of a relationship.

I do, however, do interviews.

Interviews with people who are already connected to me somehow.

People whose message speaks to me.

I used to blog all the time about social media.

Nowadays, not so much.

But I do have this to say:

Anne Lamott, on Facebook, astounds me.

I'm an awkward speaker.

It's hard enough for me to relax in private, much less when everyone's looking at me.

It's one of the things that has held me back in using video to talk to you -- the fear of coming off so awkward that you'll feel uncomfortable watching.

old-school typewriter.

When you're just starting out with your wonderful Thing -- new business, new creation -- the idea of getting testimonials (ugh) is scary.

And feels awkward.

What if people say no?

What if they never say anything?

And how do you even ask?

cricket.

Ah, yes.

That lonely moment.

You know it:

it's the moment when you put something out in the world and you listen and hear … crickets.

It could be a blog post that meant a lot to you.

It could be something new you listed on etsy.

It could be a status update on Facebook.

crayons in heart dish.

You know how you hear about these things that inexplicably take off?

A blog, a book, a video, a meme?

And it's not because of any slick marketing machinations. It happens because something about the thing just resonates with people.

That's what happened with Secret Play Date.

When I started doing it in early December (at Havi's urging), it was for purely selfish reasons.

I’ve been on Maryann’s case to do something like [Secret Play Date] since maybe June. Because I thought it would be good for her. And for her people. And because it’s a really terrific idea. But I had no idea it would have such a profound effect on me. -- Havi Brooks, The Fluent Self

Cover of Fight for Your Long Day.

Alex Kudera has been a book seller, a Toyota salesman, a busboy in Paris, and for many years, an over-worked adjunct professor. He's also a good friend, and I've long admired his tenacity, somehow writing and writing and writing despite his punishing schedule.
